Revolog Tesla II - film review

I decided to try the Revolog Tesla II film as it looked an interesting film for creating experimental images with a lightning bolt electricity style effect.

Revolog specialize in producing special effect film for analogue cameras and currently have around 12 different types of film to try. They started in 2009 and all their films are handmade. They make a Tesla 1 which produces a white/blue lightning effect that can give your film the same effect but a different feel.

So back to the Tesla II,

It’s at 35mm film

200 ISO

36 Exposures

I loaded my Olympus Trip and went off shooting, I was hoping to get some interesting  landscape shots with this film.

The effect appears randomly on the image but will show up stronger on the darker parts of your picture so it’s really just a case of having fun and experimenting to see how and where the effect appears.

The results were great the bright red colour of the lightning gives a dramatic feel to the images produced, it really does give off the illusion of shooting a photo right in a thunderstorm.

My only issue was the days I shot were a bit too bright even though it’s 200 ISO the effect appears so much better in the darker areas so I would suggest trying a cloudier day to avoid the sun washing out the lightning giving me more of this dreamy pastel coloured effect.

In conclusion however this film it really is all bout the fun and playing with the effect to see what you can create and if your looking to add some drama to your photos this is definitely the film to do it with.

I’d definitely use this film again I’d like to try it with some portraiture style to create some really interesting atmospheric shots.

Here are some shots using the Tesla II
